Although “Stock Android Vanilla” is not my thing, but I have to admit that it is fast and uncluttered. Well done Google on that! Chances are quite high that if you have previously used a Nexus device or so in your life, you’ll love it.
Although “Stock Android Vanilla” is not my thing, but I have to admit that it is fast and uncluttered. Well done Google on that! Chances are quite high that if you have previously used a Nexus device or so in your life, you’ll love it. As we all know, that Android is an open OS platform which means that anyone can edit or modify it without any problem. Exploiting this, almost all the manufacturers try their hands in modifying the OS and consequently make an Android phone their own. To save the day, there are some Apps in the Google Play store which can help you to convert your Android device to look like “Stock (somewhat)”. You can change the Notification tray, Launcher, Lock screen, Camera app, Gallery, Messaging app, Keyboard and Browser. Lets start with the Notification bar first.
ICS Status bar, SuperStatusbar and ICS Omega Status bar theme are the best things you can use to convert your Android phone to the Stock Vanilla device. The best thing is that you don’t even require root for this.
The place where you’ll stare the most is the Launcher of the phone. The launchers like the Jelly Bean launcher and Holo Launcher HD, you can get full Stock Vanilla experience in without the help of any custom ROM.
Although any of these lockscreens don’t use the multi screen interface as found in Android 4.2 interface but you can get somewhat close by opting for Android 4.1 lockscreen instead. This will get you close to the stock Vanilla UI but without the multiscreen.
The camera apps in the Google Play Store currently don’t mimic the actual Android 4.2 interface but they are at least close to it by following the Android 4.1 interface. Installing these apps can get you close to stock Vanilla — somewhat!
The Gallery is actually a bit alone here, due to the number of apps available for it: which is actually one. The Gallery ICS is the one and only option you can get in this segment, but don’t get too hasty about it because this is indeed a very good app. Gallery ICS provides full Vanilla Gallery with the option to set up a live wallpaper of all your photos.
This field is very minimilastic as the stock messaging app of Vanilla Base is not that very intutive. Personally, I prefer the Samsung’s TouchWiz Messaging app because it has the ability to send your placements, videos and even the map location.
Jelly Bean Keyboard is very good and is one of the best available for Android in these days. Apart from the SwiftKey, the Jelly Bean keyboard is my very second choice. Vanilla Keyboard is one good text input solution but these don’t have the swipe functionality.
ICS Browser+ is a very fine browser which is indeed very fast and stable. It comes with Jelly Bean like interface following the Vanilla UI along with the common gestures.
Sound Search Widget
Just like Shazam, Google’s Sound Search Widget enables you to search the name of any particular song when it is playing in your proximity by recognizing the sound from the track. This widget is only available in Jelly Bean.
This app, called JellyBean Wallpapers consists all the default wallpapers of Google Nexus 4. Just install the app and select it from the wallpaper menu to apply any of these beautiful artworks.
This is how we completely transform an Android device’s UI, do let us know if you know about any more components for the Stock Vanilla look? Don’t forget to comment below about the same.
